Within some ISO 20022 coin lists, Cardano is slotted into an identity and compliance role rather than a payments or interoperability one. Cardano's own documentation does not mention ISO 20022, and this site's coin data records its ISO 20022 role as none sourced.

The caveat has to be stated as plainly as the site's own Cardano coverage states it: Cardano is not an ISO 20022 Registration Management Group (RMG) member, and its ISO-integration health score (3/10) is tied for the lowest of the eight coins tracked here. The site checked the pages in Cardano's documentation sitemap and its homepage on September 29, 2026 and found no mention of ISO 20022. Any programmable blockchain could in principle support middleware that translates data into ISO 20022 messages, so on ISO 20022 specifically the difference between Cardano and a general-purpose chain is largely a matter of marketing.

Where Cardano has real substance is off the ISO 20022 thesis: the Ouroboros research lineage (IOG describes more than 250 peer-reviewed papers from 2015 to 2020), on-chain governance since the Plomin hard fork of January 29, 2025 through DReps, stake pool operators, and a constitutional committee, and a treasury of about 1.37 billion ADA. Throughput is a real limit today: the Leios project says Cardano processes about 3.5 transactions per second on average, and Leios, its throughput upgrade, is still in testnet.
