Frequently Asked Questions

What is an XRP whale?

An XRP whale is a wallet holder with 50,000 or more XRP, placing them in the top 1% of all tracked wallets. The term comes from the ocean-tier naming system used by the XRP community: Plankton, Crab, Fish, Dolphin, Shark, Whale, Humpback, and Mega-Whale.

How many XRP do I need to be in the top 1%?

Based on the XRPSCAN rich list, you typically need around 50,000 XRP to reach the top 1% of all XRP wallets. This threshold shifts as new wallets are created and existing ones accumulate more XRP. We refresh this number every week.

How are the percentile thresholds calculated?

We pull the full XRPSCAN balance rich-list weekly and compute the XRP amount needed to rank in the top 0.01%, 0.1%, 1%, 5%, 10%, 25%, and 50% of all active wallets. The thresholds update every 7 days.

Is it safe to enter my XRP wallet address?

Yes. The lookup is read-only. We only fetch the public balance from the XRPL. Your address is never stored in our database, never sent to analytics, and never associated with any personal data. We return the balance number only. That's it.

What is a Mega-Whale in XRP?

A Mega-Whale holds 1,000,000 or more XRP, which puts them in the top 0.01% of all XRP wallets. At current prices, that is a multimillion-dollar position. These wallets can move the market when they transact on exchanges.

How often do whale thresholds change?

The thresholds shift slowly as the XRP market grows. New retail wallets tend to lower the threshold over time, while consolidation raises it. We update weekly to stay accurate.

What is the difference between a Whale and a Humpback?

A Whale holds 50,000 to 99,999 XRP (top ~1% of wallets), while a Humpback holds 100,000 to 999,999 XRP (top ~0.1%). Both are serious positions by any measure. The Humpback tier represents an institutional-scale position.

Does being an XRP whale affect the price?

Large holders can influence price when they make significant moves on exchanges. The XRP community closely watches whale wallet activity. Large inflows to exchanges are often interpreted as selling pressure, while outflows signal accumulation.
