How the Retirement Calculator works
You enter the yearly income you want, a target price for the coin, and a timeframe. The calculator first works out the portfolio size that income would need at your withdrawal rate, then divides that by your target price to get a token count. Optional inputs add your current holdings and a monthly dollar-cost-averaging (DCA) amount.
- Portfolio needed
- annual income goal / withdrawal rate
- Tokens needed
- portfolio needed / target price
- Cost at today's price
- tokens needed x live price
- Multiplier needed
- target price / live price
- Tokens from DCA
- sum over each month i of (monthly DCA / price_i)
- Price_i
- live + (target - live) x i / (months - 1), for i = 0 to months - 1
- Projected holdings
- tokens you own + tokens from DCA
- Gap (tokens)
- max(0, tokens needed - projected holdings)
- Extra monthly DCA
- gap tokens x ((live + target) / 2) / months
Assumptions and limits
- The withdrawal rate is a planning input you choose (3%, 4%, or 5%; the default is 4%). The calculator only divides by it. It does not test whether any rate would have lasted through past markets, and it does not model taxes or inflation.
- The DCA projection assumes the price rises in a straight line from today's live price to your target over the years you select, with one purchase per month. Real prices do not move that way.
- The extra monthly DCA figure is the amount needed on top of any DCA you entered, priced at the midpoint between the live price and your target. It is a rough guide, not a schedule.
- The Realism label depends only on the multiplier: under 2x is Achievable, under 10x is Ambitious, under 50x is Moon, and 50x or more is Galaxy Brain.
- Prices come from CoinGecko and refresh about once an hour. The per-coin target price buttons are preset shortcuts, not forecasts.

Retirement Calculator: Common Questions
It depends on the coin you pick, your income goal, your target price and your withdrawal rate. The calculator first sets a portfolio target from your income goal (with the 4% rule, $60,000 per year needs a $1.5 million portfolio), then divides it by your target price for that coin. At a $10 target price that is 150,000 tokens. At $100 it is 15,000 tokens. Pick any coin above to see the count at its live price and your own target.
The 4% rule is a retirement planning guideline. It says you can withdraw 4% of your portfolio each year without depleting it over a 30-year retirement, assuming a balanced portfolio with historical average returns. A $1.5 million portfolio at 4% produces $60,000 per year. The rule comes from the Trinity Study and sees wide use in financial planning, though results vary with volatile assets like cryptocurrency.
$5,000 per month is $60,000 per year. At the 4% safe withdrawal rule, that requires a $1.5 million portfolio. At a $10 target price you need 150,000 tokens. At $25, 60,000 tokens. At $100, 15,000 tokens. The calculator above shows the full breakdown for the coin and target price you choose.
Crypto assets, including the ISO 20022 coins this calculator covers, are highly volatile. Past performance does not guarantee future results, and no returns are confirmed. Most financial professionals treat crypto as a small part of a diversified portfolio, not a primary retirement vehicle. Use this calculator to understand the math, not as a buy signal.
