XRP Payments Module

ISO Module

XRP's designated role in ISO 20022 is as a real-time bridge currency for cross-border payment settlement, targeting the replacement of nostro pre-funding via ODL.

Within the ISO 20022 ecosystem, XRP is positioned as the settlement asset for cross-border payment corridors. The logic is straightforward: banks currently need pre-funded nostro accounts in every currency corridor they serve. XRP, as a liquid bridge currency on the XRPL, can replace that pre-funding with on-demand settlement.

Ripple (the company) is a member of the ISO 20022 Registration Management Group (RMG), the body that governs the standard; RippleNet, its messaging layer, is ISO 20022-aligned. (The RMG membership and ISO 20022 alignment apply to Ripple/RippleNet, not the XRP token or XRP Ledger.) Major bank partners (Santander, PNC, SBI Group in Japan) have piloted or deployed RippleNet/ODL in live payment corridors.

The "module" framing used by the ISO 20022 investor community assigns each of the 8 coins a specific functional role in the broader financial infrastructure transformation. XRP's role is payments/settlement — the highest-volume, most direct-revenue module in the ecosystem.

Crypto Relevance

XRP's payments module role has the most direct path to real institutional volume: every dollar of ODL transaction volume is a dollar of XRP bought and sold, creating genuine token demand that scales with payment flow.
